Denim, a sure bet for winter

Find the right length

It's often the length, more than the waist, that decides whether a pair of pants fits correctly. A straight cut ideally stops at the ankle or skims the top of the shoe. A wide leg benefits from going a little lower, until it covers the instep, which lengthens the silhouette. A 7/8th cut, it allows to free the ankle and is easily worn with a low shoe.

One detail changes everything: the length is judged with the shoes you will actually wear. A barefoot adjusted hem will almost always be too short with an ankle boot. If you alternate between flat and heel, it is better to choose the most common shoe, even if it means having the hem reworked later.

Size, a choice of comfort

Waist height modifies the general balance. A high waist defines the silhouette and works well with a tucked top or a cropped knit. A semi-high waist remains more discreet and supports all types of tops. It's also a question of comfort: worn all day while sitting, high-waisted pants require a material that offers a minimum of flexibility.
